All public servants have up to August 23rd of August 2021 to ensure they have been vaccinated against the covid 19 virus.This is according to the circular that was released on Monday by the head of the public service prof .Kinyua.
It was observed that some public servants had deliberately decided to refuse to take the jab so as to continue avoiding work in the on the sense that they are lawfully allowed to be working from home. Prof Kinyua also reported that this decision to have government employees vaccinated was informed by an advice from National Security Advisory Committee (NSAC) of Kenya.
The NSAC had a meeting, and it reported that there was a low uptake of covid-19 vaccines among public servants especially the the core public servants , security sector, and the teachers .Mr kinyua reported that is against a background of access to vaccines having greatly improved especially among this category of people.
In the latest information from the Ministry of Health, it shows that the uptake of the second dose among priority groups is 214,722 people for those aged 58 and above. On the other hand 120,155 are health workers, 102,208 are teachers), 56,219 are security officers and 205,802 categorised as others have been vaccinated.
In Kenya, there are about 340,000 teachers are employed by TSC while the private sector has close to 161,000 teachers according to the Kenya private school Association (KPSA) chief Executive Officer Peter Ndoro.
Mr. Ndoro reported that about 91,000 private teachers were immunized during the first round of vaccination.This means that there is quite a number that have not been vaccinated.
The Health Cabinet Secretary mutahi kagwe on Thursday last week took time to urge teachers to go for the jabs saying there was enough stock for all of them including support staff should go for the jabs, there is no shortage of the covid 19 vaccines.
The Head of public service prof.Joseph Kinyua in a statement dated August 5 had said that the civil servants will be given first priority in the ongoing vaccination exercise.He further directed the principal Secretaries and accounting officers to ensure full implementation of the decision.
