Five KCPE candidates die after boat capsizes in Uasin Gishu

Five KCPE students from Arap Moi Primary School in Tarakwa, Uasin Gishu county, had a planned fun day that took a fatal turn when the boat they were sailing in capsized.

The five were with a group of Standard Six and Standard Eight students who were being escorted by teachers to a hotel for leisure activities, according to police report.

According to the report, some students boarded a boat that had a man-made dam in its path when they arrived at the location on Saturday at around 5 p.m., and the boat overturned.

One Standard Six student survived and was taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital due to acute low oxygen levels, while the other five Standard Eight students perished.
